What you’ll be doing:

• Develop missions and levels according to the creative direction, the narrative objectives, and the game mechanics.
• Understand the design parameters including level design metrics, character abilities, player controls, AI, UI, etc.
• Work closely with other designers, programmers, artists and animators in the creation of single player content (levels, player mechanics, ai behaviors, scripted moments, documentation).
• Create and maintain high quality Level Design and Mission Design Documents.
• Use the Unreal Blueprint tools to triggers combat, objectives, and scripted events in the levels.
• Prototype gameplay experiences.
• Debug technical issues.
• Suggest creative new ideas and concepts.
• Assists the game designer in the development and evolution of the game content.
• Create a harmonious work relationship with other divisions of the company abroad.
• Commit to deadlines and monthly milestones.
• Any other related tasks.

What we’re looking for:

• 2 to 5 years of experience in level design
• Strong knowledge of the Unreal Engine Blueprints and tools to create game mechanics is mandatory.
• Ability to design creative and interesting game levels utilizing 3D tools (Unreal, Maya, Max, or similar 3D editor).
• Experience with AI behaviors and prototyping.
• Must possess a strong working knowledge of game design systems.
• Ability to iterate creatively using a set number of game patterns.
• Understanding of pacing and balance of the player experience.
• Ability to apply critical thinking and analytical skills to resolve issues.
• Ability to respect deadlines designated for team projects.
• Ability to learn new tools quickly.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment with tight deadlines and evolving projects.
• Ability to collaborate harmoniously with colleagues from other departments and in other countries.
• Comfortable with constructive criticism and able to explain, justify and rationalize choices.
• Ability to regularly report the advancement of their tasks to the team lead.
• Passion for games and game development.

Bonus points

• Scripting skills.
• Advanced knowledge of game design theory.
• Good understanding of game economy principles.
• Good understanding of narrative design.
• Some artistic background, formal or otherwise, 2D or 3D, is a plus.
• Team player that is not afraid to get their hands dirty.
• Japanese language knowledge, written and/or spoken.
